Why video call bingo hits different
Meeting-room bingo needs someone to say the funny thing. Video call bingo mostly needs the universe to do its job: the dog barks, the doorbell rings, someone joins from a moving car. Half the squares are events, not phrases — which means you can play with your camera off and your opinions to yourself.
It is also the fairest game for distributed teams. Everyone on the call hears the same mutes and sees the same freezes, regardless of timezone or seniority. For forty-five minutes, the intern and the VP are playing identical cards under identical conditions.
How to run it on a call
- Drop the share link in the meeting chat right at the start — identical cards, fair race.
- The host is at a natural disadvantage: they are busy hosting. Consider it a handicap.
- Audio squares count even when the video freezes. Especially then.
- “You’re on mute” is the most common square in the pack. It will come up. It always comes up.

Does it work with any video app?
Yes — Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, WebEx or whatever replaces them. The card lives in your browser; the app is just where the squares happen.
What is the most common square?
“You’re on mute”, by a landslide, followed by “can everyone see my screen?”. Neither has ever failed to occur in a call longer than twenty minutes.
Can I play with my camera off?
Yes — roughly half the pack is audio or context squares: barking, echo, “you’re breaking up”, the awkward silence after “any questions?”. Camera-optional bingo is fully supported.
How does everyone get the same card?
Hit Copy share link and paste it into the meeting chat. The card layout is encoded in the link, so everyone who opens it marks the exact same squares.
